How to Prepare for GATE 2019 CS?

There is still a lot of time left for the exam to be conducted. If you are in 3rd or 4th year of Engineering course and thinking of appearing for the exam, this is the best time to start preparing for it. To score well in the exam you must know the entire GATE 2019 syllabus for CS and then start preparing. To know the syllabus, a link has been provided above.

Generally, it is said that you should get hang of each and every topic of the syllabus. However, personally, I don’t believe in it. You can leave out some of the topics which are not important and does not contribute much to the score of examination. Some of the most important subjects that may help you score high in the exam are:

  • Discrete mathematics
  • ToC
  • Digital Logic
  • Programming and Data Structures
  • Algorithms

As I am also from Engineering background and have appeared for one of the GATE exams, I would recommend you to first of all cover Engineering Mathematics. I know, you have always been worried about the passing status of this subject during first and second years of your Engineering. But believe me, this is the most interesting subject and questions are straightforward and easy to answer in GATE. Many applicants leave this area and this is where you can get a chance to score good marks and get admission in the college of your choice.

Solve Previous Year Question Papers

On the other hand, you must also solve previous year question papers to get an idea of what are the type of questions that are being asked during the exam. This will also help you to cover all the topics and practice the questions that are important in it. Another recommended way to solve the previous year questions papers is to try the questions subject-wise.

Know the Shortcuts

You must also learn shortcuts and tricks to solve problems quickly as this would save a lot of time during the paper. In this regard, you will get enough time to solve questions from areas that may be difficult for you.

Solve Sample Papers

Sample papers will also play an important role while preparing for GATE 2019. This will help you get familiarize the exam pattern of the exam. You may also get details on the types of questions being asked and the most important questions that may appear in the final question paper. Time management is another thing that you can learn by solving sample papers. You will be able to manage the time to be spent on every section and solve the questions quickly with accuracy.

Take Mock Tests

Apart from sample papers, you should also opt for mock tests. It is just like a real examination. You get an idea of how much marks you are going to score in the examination. Based on the previous years cut off, you can compare the marks you have obtained and know whether you are prepared enough to appear for the exam.

You can also take a mock test on the basis of sections of topics. Once you are done with a certain topic and think that you are prepared enough for it, go for the mock test and analyze your performance.
