Candidates can check their rank of JEE Main 2018 on their result. The result displays the category rank as well as All India Rank. Therefore, make sure to check them carefully. Today, paper 1 candidates have checked their ranks. On May 31, same will apply for Paper 2 candidates.

How to Check JEE Main 2018 Rank?

Once you access the above link and follow the result link, you will be able to download the JEE Main 2018 Result. Thereafter, check your rank in the result. Refer the image given below:

How is JEE Main 2018 Rank Decided?

The actual scores of candidates in JEE Main 2018 is used to determine the ranks of the engineering entrance test. Your rank is affected directly by the score you secure in the test. This means that the higher your score is, the higher is your rank of JEE Main 2018. Also, if two or more candidates score equal marks, then tie-breaking rule or inter-se-merit is applicable.

Tie Breaking for JEE Main Paper 1:

  1. First, marks in mathematics are considered. A candidate who has the higher score in paper 1 mathematics gets a better rank.
  2. After that marks obtained in physics are given importance. One with better marks in physics gets a higher rank.
  3. If the tie persists then ratio of positive marks and negative marks are calculated. One with more positive marks gets the higher rank.
  4. Thereafter even if the tie persists, then both students get the same rank.

Tie Breaking in JEE Main 2018 Paper 2:

  1. Candidate with higher marks in Aptitude Test will be awarded better rank.
  2. If the tie further exists, then the candidate having higher marks in Drawing Test will be given a better rank.
  3. In case, the tie still exists, then the ratio of positive and negative marks will be used. Candidates with the higher absolute value of the ratio will be awarded better rank.
  4. Even after this, if the resolution is not possible, then finally such candidates will be given the same rank.

JEE Main Rank List 2018

Along with the JEE main 2018 result, the JEE Main 2018 rank list is also available. After checking their JEE Main result, candidates can get access to their All India Ranks (AIRs). The rank list of JEE Main 2018 will reflect All India Common Ranks and All India Category Ranks of the candidates. All India Common Ranks are used for admissions, while category ranks are just for information sake. The rank list will be used for the admission purposes.

JEE Main 2018 Cutoff

Well, in JEE Main every candidate is provided rank and score. Also, there is no pass or fail in this examination. But there are two types of cutoff ranks. Thus, read below to know about them.

Cutoff Type 1 (JEE Advanced qualifying Rank): Candidates having rank below this cutoff will be eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced an will have the chance to take admission in the IITs. This year top 2,24,000 candidates of JEE Main will be selected for JEE Advanced 2018. It will be mentioned in the result itself that whether or not you are eligible for JEE Advanced 2018.

Cutoff Type 2 (Opening Ranks and Closing Ranks): The participating institutes, NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, SFTIs, other colleges of JEE Main 2018 decide these ranks. Also, these ranks are different for each institute and candidates falling between this ranks are called for counselling in the respective institutes. Although, the details of each institutes’ OR and CR will be available at the time of counselling.
