As per the official notification by CBSE earlier, it was clear that the result of JEE Main 2018 Paper 1 is to be available on 30 Apr 2018, which was declared accordingly. Whereas, the paper 2 result was to be declared on May 31, 2018. But as a surprise, the Paper 2 Result has been declared a day before. Candidates with either at least 75% marks in board exam or in top 20 percentile can participate in counselling on basis of JEE Main 2018 Result. Although it was said that Paper 2 results will be announced on 31 May 2018, but chances are it may be published with JEE main 2018 Paper 1 Result.

CBSE is to publish cutoff in scorecard/rank card along with result. Last year cutoff was 81 for general, 49 for OBC, 32 for SC, and 27 for ST.

Candidates may note that jeemain.nic.in is the official website of JEE Main 2018. However, result is published at cbseresults.nic.in. Regardless, link and notification of result announcement are posted at jeemain.nic.in also.

The result of JEE Main 2018 indicates marks, rank, as well as eligibility for JEE Advanced. Admission to engineering (BE / B.Tech) and architecture (B.Arch / B.Plan) in academic session 2018-2019 in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs are only on basis of JEE Main 2018 result.

CBSE is responsible for conduct of JEE Main 2018 and declaration of its result. Result (rank) is only on basis of score obtained in exam as per official answer key.

  • Marks in paper 1 = Number of correct answers x 4 – number of incorrect answers x 1.

Expected cutoffs and past year cutoffs

Given below are the expected cut off of JEE Main 2018 as well as actual past year cutoffs. To start with, the past three years cut offs were as follows: In 2017, cut off scores were 81 (general), 49 (OBC), 32 (SC), 27 (ST). Prior to that in 2016, cut off scores were 100 (general), 70 (OBC), 52 (SC), 48 (ST). Previously in 2016, cut off score were 105 (general), 70 (OBC), 50 (SC), 44 (ST).

Coming to expected cut offs; following are expected cutoffs for JEE Main 2018 result: 82-86 (general), 50-54 (OBC), 33-37 (SC), 28-32 (ST).

  • Also many private colleges are accepting JEE Main result for engineering admissions in academic session 2018-2019.

CBSE does not announce any fixed time for declaration of JEE Main Result. It can be announced any time on scheduled date.

  • Last year result was announced at 1 PM.
  • In the year before that, the time at which result was announced was 5 PM.

Overall 11.5 lakh students registered for the Joint Entrance Examination (Mains) 2018.  CBSE conducted Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Mains) in offline mode on April 08, 2018 and then in online mode on April 15 and 16, 2018. How to check JEE Main 2018 Result?

Step 1: Click on the link for JEE Main 2018 result check (which will be available as soon as CBSE declares result). Or you can visit cbseresults.nic.in.

Step 2: If you visit cbseresults.nic.in instead of clicking link above, then you will land on CBSE results main page. Here, you will have to click link with text that says “Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2018- With Rank – Announced on 30th April 2018”.

Now you reach the login for JEE Main 2018 result.

Step 3: The first thing you enter is the roll number.

Step 4: Then you enter date of birth. Click the submit button then.

JEE Main 2018 Result in form of score and rank now appears on screen. Check result and print it.

CBSE does not send score card or rank card by post. Hence all candidates must download it on time.

What happens after JEE Main 2018 Result is announced?

CBSE and JEE Main Secretariat are bodies that are only responsible for conduct of exam. Therefore after result, following things happen.

  1. CBSE sends result data to seat allocation boards.
  2. Seat allocation board or concerned state governments, institutes accept JEE Main result 2018 data for the purpose of seat allotment and counselling (CSAB 2018).

CBSE or JEE Main Secretariat do not handle counselling process, seat allotment, or get any input on seats.

Caution!

JEE Main 2018 Result of the following candidates will not be announced.

  • If candidate had provided incorrect information, and appeared in more than one slot or date of computer mode exam, or appeared in both pen and paper based test and computer based exam.
  • If candidate actually studied less than five subjects in qualifying exam / class 12th, but furnished incorrect data to appear in exam, then also his/her candidature will be cancelled.

How is JEE Main 2018 Result Evaluated?

CBSE releases official JEE Main Answer Key. Candidates can login at jeemain.nic.in from April 24 to 27, 2018 to check answer key of JEE Main 2018, recorded responses of pen and paper based test and answers of computer based test. Candidates can also submit challenges to official answer key. Based on challenges received, the Joint Admission Board / CBSE shall decide upon final answer keys. CBSE will calculate JEE Main 2018 score and rank on basis of final answer keys only.

There are no “passing marks” in JEE Main; all candidates who appear for exam get a rank. However a qualifying marks is set to be eligible for JEE Advanced. JEE Main 2018 Cut Off in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced will be revealed with result. Until then you can check past year cut offs.

Tie Breaking for JEE Main 2018 Result

CBSE has laid down the following rules to break a tie wherever two or more candidates obtain same marks.

Tie Breaking Criterion for JEE Main Paper I

  • First, marks in mathematics are considered. A candidate who has higher score in paper 1 mathematics gets a better rank.
  • After that marks obtained in physics are given importance. One with better marks in physics gets a higher rank.
  • If tie persists then ratio of positive marks and negative marks is calculated. One with higher absolute value of this ratio is awarded a higher rank.
  • Thereafter also if tie persists, then both students get same rank.

Tie Breaking Criterion for JEE Main Paper II

  • Marks obtained in aptitude test of paper 2 are first checked. The candidate who has better score in aptitude test gets a better rank.
  • If that does not break the tie, then marks in drawing test are compared. One with higher score in it gets a higher rank.
  • In the event that tie persists, then ratio of positive to negative scores are found out. One with higher absolute value of positive to negative score gets a better rank.
  • If after these also, tie remains, then they get same rank.

Important note to candidates for after result of JEE Main 2018

Candidates should check and ensure their eligibility for JEE Advanced 2018. They should also check eligibility criteria for admission to various colleges. It is important to note that being eligible for JEE and getting JEE Main 2018 All India Rank does not automatically entitle you to be eligible for admission.

Also, those who are from Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha (states participating in JEE) should check details of state admission. These states were earlier admitting on basis of state level engineering entrance exams and have their own sets of rules.

What is the process that is to be followed for admission after JEE Main 2018 result?

  • Candidates need to register for counselling process.
  • Once registered, they will get the option to choose colleges and branches. Choice filling will be an online process.
  • Seat allocation board / state counselling authorities / institutes will offer admission on basis of choices exercised by candidates and their JEE Main 2018 All India Rank.
  • Those who get a seat need to attend document verification. Its purpose is to check identity, age, qualifying exam, state of eligibility, category.
  • Candidates need to show original documents.
  • Then, candidates who are offered a seat and are proved to be eligible for it as per verification, need to pay admission fee to secure admission.

JEE Main 2018 Toppers

The names, ranks, and scores of JEE Main 2018 Toppers will be announced with result. CBSE will publish a press release of JEE (Main) 2018 result. Also, it will have, among other things, two lists: name of toppers boys category, and name of topers girls category.
