Here is the brief outline of the TANCET 2019 Admission Process. With the help of these candidates will get a brief idea on how the admission is made via TANCET. The counselling of TANCET is called TANCA and is also conducted by Anna University.


TANCET 2019 Eligibility Criteria

In a nutshell, here are the eligibility criteria for TANCET. Although, there are specific course wise eligibility criteria which we have mentioned below.

Candidate must be a pass in a recognized Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the relevant field.

The minimum marks should be 50 % (45 % in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the following qualifying degree examination.

  • B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch. (or)
  • B.Pharm. (or)
  • Master’s Degree in the relevant branch of Science / Arts, which are prescribed.

The candidates who apply for admission to full-time M.E./M.Tech. degree programmes will be grouped as given below.
GATE Category
  • Candidates who have a valid GATE 2017, GATE 2018 and GATE 2019 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in the appropriate discipline of Engineering / Technology
  • Candidates who have a valid GATE 2017, GATE 2018 and GATE 2019 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET 2019 also.

TANCET Category

Candidates willing to be considered under TANCET category should appear for TANCET.


A limited number of seats (full time only) is made available for the candidates employed and sponsored by the Government organisations, Government aided educational institutions and registered professional architects with a minimum of 5 years professional experience, under sponsored category. All such candidates who intend to apply under sponsored category have to appear for TANCET 2019.

TANCET is conducted by Anna University every year. Other than M.E/M.Tech admission in various other courses is also provided on the basis of TANCET. These other programmes include – MBA, MCA, M.Arch, and M.Plan. Candidates who have GATE score need not appear in TANCET. However, candidates with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers should appear for TANCET 2019 also.

  • Fill and submit the application form
  • Make payment online.

Application Fee of TANCET 2019

  • The application fee is Rs. 500/- for general category.
  • For SC /SCA /ST candidates, the fee is Rs. 250/-
  • Mode of application fee payment is Online only.

Candidate registering for more than one programme has to pay Rs. 500/- (250/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamilnadu) for each additional programme through online only.

Duration of the exam: 2 Hours

Total Number of Questions: 115

Total Marks: 100

Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answers and -1/3 for wrong answers.

Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test 2019 Admit Card

The university issue TANCET 2019 Admit Card only to those candidates who successfully submit their application form. The hall ticket will be available in official website of Anna University. Thus, candidates need to download the same before the last date. The university will not send the admit card by post. Therefore, before the last date candidates must log in to their registered account and download their TANCET 2019 hall Ticket.

Note – In case the candidate loses their admit card they can get a duplicate copy by paying the requisite amount in form of a DD.

TANCET 2019 Result

The university will release the TANCET 2019 Result online. No scorecard or print of the result will be sent via post. Thus, like the admit card/hall ticket candidates must download their TANCET 2019 result online. University will host the results on their website and under the candidates’ login.

To check the result candidate needs to enter the login validation details and download the result. The candidate shall retain the printout of the result. It is mandatory for admission in colleges.

Counselling for Tamil Nadu CET 2019

All the candidates who have qualified GATE and TANCET can apply for TANCA. It is the first step towards counselling process for the admission of M.Tech courses in Tamil Nadu Colleges.

Basically, it is an entire admission process for the admission in the engineering colleges. Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria of TANCA 2019 will be able to apply for it. Eligibility criteria for GATE and TANCET applicants are different. Applicant needs to check their eligibility before applying for the admission process.


Q: Is GATE score mandatory for taking TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) test?

Ans. No. It is not mandatory.

Q: I have a valid GATE score, do I need to appear in TANCET?

Ans. Candidates who have a valid GATE 2017, GATE 2018 and GATE 2019 score with qualifying marks for assistantship in Engineering Science (XE) and Life Science (XL) papers are only required to appear for TANCET 2019. Others don’t need to.

Q: Where can I get Previous Years question paper for TANCET?

A: Candidates desirous of getting previous year question booklets of TANCET may obtain the same from the Centre for Admission & Entrance Examinations, Anna University, Chennai by paying Rs.25/- for each booklet by cash or D.D. drawn in favour of “The Secretary, TANCET” payable at Chennai.
